Powerhouse Gym

For more than 35-years, Powerhouse Gym has been one of the global leaders in the fitness industry. Conveniently located in the east wing of The Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale next to H&M, Powerhouse Gym features almost 22,000 square feet of state-of-the-art exercise equipment, personal training areas, and fitness classrooms. Franjo Builders (formerly GSD Contracting) also built rooms for different types of physical therapy like cool sculpting, chiropractic, and acupuncture. The gym features an iconic 100-foot glass window that offers breathtaking views of the Intracoastal Waterways. Other amenities include tanning, a snack bar, and luxurious locker rooms.

Since the structure itself had unique engineering and infrastructure challenges. Our team had to overcome a variety of unexpected obstacles during the project. Florida Power & Light was unable to provide enough power to the building without a larger transformer, requiring the team to design and construct a new transformer room. The team was forced to work without a permanent power supply throughout the project. This then presented another series of challenges … the South Florida humid climate. It was critical to protect the facility against moister and the threat of a contaminated environment (i.e. mold). GSD project team was agile and well organized to prevent this from happening.

As the leading sports facility and gym construction management company in South Florida, Franjo Builders worked on this tenant improvement project while simultaneously managing the demolition and retrofit of the adjacent Lord & Taylor department store.
